Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb set up a standing committee on Saturday, 17 October, tasked with monitoring and processing import applications. According to a statement from his office, the body must give urgent treatment to sensitive or priority products for supplying the domestic market and the operation of production units.

The committee examines applications on a case-by-case basis. Its remit also covers purchases abroad made by companies for their own production and service activities, within the limits of their needs, under the decree of 13 October.

The new body is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion. It includes the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Algeria, the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions, and the Algerian Economic Renewal Council.

The Minister of Foreign Trade must submit a weekly report to the Prime Minister on the committee's activities, the text also provides.
