Angola’s public administration and state-owned companies spent the equivalent of $751.9 million on motor vehicles in 2025, 250% more than in 2024, according to calculations published on Friday 23 October by the newspaper Expansão using the country’s General State Account.

Spending stood at $215.5 million in 2024. Over three years, it totalled 976.2 billion kwanzas, or $1.1167 billion after conversion at the average exchange rate for each year, the Angolan business newspaper said.

The budget line for mechanically powered vehicles covers more than passenger cars. Angola’s finance ministry told Expansão that it includes motor vehicles used by public entities to transport people and goods, without providing a breakdown by type of equipment.

Public administrations and state-owned companies held 73,341 vehicles at the end of 2025, according to data cited by the newspaper. That stock does not show how many units were bought during the year, as the spending may cover vehicles in different categories and price ranges.

The finance ministry published the General State Account and its annexes for the 2025 fiscal year on 30 September. The document records 34.60 trillion kwanzas in revenue and 34.57 trillion kwanzas in expenditure after it was reviewed by the Council of Ministers on 29 September.
