BGFIBank Cameroon and AFG Bank Cameroon accounted for 31.2% of new loans granted by banks in the country in the second quarter of 2026, according to a report by the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) published in October.
BGFIBank leads with 15.86% of new loans, compared with 8.6% a year earlier. AFG Bank, still referred to by its former name, Banque Atlantique du Cameroun, in the report, follows with 15.35%, compared with 10.4%, according to Sika Finance.
The two banks are gaining ground while the total volume of new loans fell by 3.33% year on year, to FCFA 1,824.2 billion.
That progress nonetheless leaves a fragmented market. According to the BEAC, no single institution can on its own influence prices or the general conditions of credit.
Businesses received nearly 92% of financing. SMEs obtained FCFA 375.5 billion, up 19.94% year on year, while large companies captured FCFA 1,298.4 billion.
