Remittances from the Kenyan diaspora reached 3.769 billion US dollars from January to September 2026, down 0.14% year on year, according to central bank data relayed by Business Daily on Sunday 18 October. The fall in transfers from North America almost erased their growth in other regions.
Flows from North America fell 11.2% to 1.946 billion dollars, about 245 million less than a year earlier. Remittances from Europe rose 16.9% to 798.4 million, and those from the rest of the world rose 13.9% to 1.025 billion.
For September alone, Kenya received 438.5 million dollars, up 4.5% year on year, according to the central bank's bulletin published on 16 October. Over the twelve months to September, the cumulative total however fell 1% to 5.032 billion.
These statistics cover formal channels, notably banks and licensed transfer providers. The central bank stresses that these remittances remain an essential source of foreign currency and support the balance of payments.
