Comparing African economies consistently

Useful comparisons use matching units, periods and definitions. Apparent precision cannot repair incompatible data.

Define the question first

Market size, real growth and GDP per person answer different questions. A more populous country can have higher total GDP but lower GDP per person. Avoid turning a single indicator into an overall investment-attractiveness ranking.

Align periods and data status

Compare the same year and record whether values are observations, estimates or forecasts. A 2027 forecast is not an achieved result comparable to a 2025 observation. Revisions can alter levels or growth: retain the extraction date and publication version.

Read several dimensions together

Read growth, inflation, debt and sector structure together without adding unlike percentages. A missing value is not zero. For an actual project, supplement national data with sector conditions, the currencies of costs and revenue, and applicable local rules.

Educational information, not a personalised recommendation. Numerical examples are fictional. Fees, taxes and rules depend on the country and product; confirm the applicable terms before committing money.
