Getting started on the BRVM
Before choosing a share, decide how much you can set aside, for how long, and what loss you can afford.

Keep everyday money separate
List planned expenses and the unexpected costs you need to cover. Money needed for rent or an approaching deadline should not depend on selling shares on a fixed date. Prices can fall and buyers may be scarce when you need to sell.
Choose a verifiable intermediary
BRVM securities are traded through authorised brokerage firms (SGIs). Check authorisation with AMF-UMOA and read the account agreement. Request written fees covering brokerage, custody and account maintenance. Compare service and withdrawal arrangements too.
Calculate your available amount
Illustration: a CFA100,000 budget does not necessarily buy CFA100,000 of shares. If hypothetical fees total CFA2,000, CFA98,000 remains for securities. Actual fees depend on the intermediary and transaction; this is not a market tariff.
Practise and track decisions
Use a virtual portfolio to record a date, price and reason for each decision. It may not reproduce real-order fees or liquidity. Review company results and spread risks; past gains do not guarantee future gains.
