The West African regional stock exchange, the BRVM, closed Monday, 26 October 2026 with its main Composite index up 1.06% at 534.74 points. Sonatel, trading on a ten-for-one split-adjusted basis for the first time, rose 7.18% to close at CFA4,700 a share.

The rise extended to the exchange’s other headline indices. The BRVM 30 climbed 1.35% to 259.82 points and the BRVM Prestige gained 1.70% to 199.94. Total market turnover reached CFA2.47 billion, according to the official exchange figures updated at 15:30 GMT.

For Sonatel, the session provided the first completed trading figures for the newly split shares. The stock began the day with an adjusted reference price of CFA4,385, exactly one-tenth of Friday’s pre-split closing price of CFA43,850. The closing level of CFA4,700 therefore represented a gain of CFA315 on the comparable basis. The BRVM recorded trading in 323,351 Sonatel shares during the session.

Under the transaction approved by the Senegalese company’s shareholders, each old share was replaced by ten new shares without changing the company’s share capital or investors’ percentage holdings. Comparing Monday’s CFA4,700 price directly with Friday’s CFA43,850 quote would therefore confuse prices representing different numbers of shares.

Elsewhere on the exchange, Bank of Africa Mali gained 5.45% to CFA5,800 and Palmci rose 4.17% to CFA7,500. NSIA Banque Côte d’Ivoire fell 7.49% to CFA19,150, while Unilever Côte d’Ivoire lost 6.53% to CFA45,200.

Monday’s gain followed two weeks of declines in the regional equity market. The BRVM Composite ended Friday, 23 October at 529.14 points after a 0.65% weekly retreat, according to Daba Finance’s report published on 24 October. The 26 October result marks a rebound from that previous close, now accompanied by completed trading in Sonatel’s split-adjusted shares.
