Trading in Sonatel shares reached CFA12.852 billion on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at the West African Regional Securities Exchange (BRVM), accounting for almost 91% of the value of all equity transactions. The exchange’s official market bulletin records 3,123,435 shares in the Senegalese telecoms operator changing hands during the session, leaving trading activity heavily concentrated in a single stock.
Total equity turnover rose to CFA14.125 billion from CFA2.949 billion the previous day, an increase of almost fivefold. The number of shares traded across the market climbed from 1.403 million to 8.368 million. Sonatel alone generated most of the money traded in the equity segment, with the remaining listed stocks accounting for approximately CFA1.27 billion.
Heavy trading as the share price falls
The surge in activity came alongside a 5.08% decline in Sonatel’s share price, which closed at CFA4,200 after CFA4,425 the previous day. On 27 October, 309,660 Sonatel shares had changed hands for CFA1.420 billion while the stock fell 5.85%. The following session therefore saw a sharp increase in trading in the company even as its share price continued to retreat.
The exchange’s broader indicators also finished lower. The BRVM Composite index closed at 528.34 points, down 0.70%, while the BRVM 30 fell 0.75% to 256.25 points. Bond-market transactions amounted to CFA470.39 million, far below the value traded in Sonatel shares alone.
