Sonatel fell 5.85% on the West African regional stock exchange, the BRVM, on Tuesday 27 October 2026, a day after its first session trading on a ten-for-one split-adjusted basis. The BRVM Composite index declined 0.50% to 532.09 points, according to closing figures published by the Abidjan-based exchange.
The drop followed a stronger session: on Monday 26 October, shares in the Senegalese telecoms operator had gained 7.18% on their first day after the split, while the Composite rose 1.06% to 534.74 points. Tuesday’s move reflects subsequent market trading on the same adjusted share basis rather than the arithmetic effect of the split itself.
The main indices finish lower
The BRVM 30 lost 0.63% to close at 258.19 points, while the BRVM Prestige fell 0.54% to 198.86. The equity market’s capitalisation stood at about CFA20,866 billion, according to the exchange. RichBourse counted 20 stocks declining, 18 rising and 10 unchanged among 48 listed companies. Sodeci nevertheless gained 7.50% and CIE 7.47%, while Sicor lost 7.50%.
Trading on a new share basis
Sonatel’s split, approved by shareholders on 8 October and effective from 26 October, replaced each old share with ten new ones. The outstanding share count increased from 100 million to one billion and nominal value fell from CFA500 to CFA50 per share. Share capital remained unchanged at CFA50 billion, with no automatic change in shareholders’ ownership percentages.
In an official notice dated 23 October, the BRVM set the adjusted reference price for the first post-split session at CFA4,385. The prices quoted for 26 and 27 October are therefore on the same basis, unlike per-share prices published before the split.
