Ecobank Ghana reported consolidated net profit of GH¢1.35 billion for the first nine months of 2026, down 4.3% from GH¢1.42 billion a year earlier. The Accra-listed lender released its unaudited accounts for the period ended September 30 through the Ghana Stock Exchange on October 30.

Profitability softened even as the quality of the bank’s loan portfolio improved. Its non-performing loan ratio fell to 14.99% in September 2026 from 20.96% a year earlier, a decline of 5.97 percentage points. The bank’s regulatory capital adequacy ratio increased from 15.18% to 18.19% over the same period.

Consolidated operating income fell 6.4% to GH¢3.51 billion from GH¢3.75 billion. Net interest income accounted for much of the decline, dropping to GH¢2.34 billion from GH¢2.56 billion. Net fees and commissions grew 13.9% to GH¢507.8 million, but that increase was not enough to offset weaker income from other activities.

Customer lending expands

The lender’s balance sheet continued to expand. Group loans and advances to customers rose 34.7% from September 2025 to GH¢16.32 billion, compared with GH¢12.12 billion a year earlier. Customer deposits increased 10.2% to GH¢38.06 billion, while total assets reached GH¢55.91 billion from GH¢49.90 billion at the end of September 2025.

Impairment charges on financial assets declined to GH¢170.8 million from GH¢221.2 million. That reduction came alongside the improvement in the bank’s non-performing loan ratio, although personnel expenses rose to GH¢620.5 million from GH¢558.4 million. Group pre-tax profit edged down to GH¢2.08 billion from GH¢2.11 billion.

Ecobank Ghana is listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, and pan-African parent Ecobank Transnational Incorporated holds 68.93% of the bank’s issued ordinary shares.
