GuarantCo, a credit guarantee provider within the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), has helped close a $100 million private capital raise for a debt fund managed by ALMA. Announced on 29 October 2026, the transaction is designed to finance financial institutions, fintech companies and smaller businesses in emerging markets, particularly across sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
The structure includes a $75 million partial credit guarantee from GuarantCo supporting investments in the Nava Capital 1 vehicle. Aegon Asset Management is the anchor investor alongside other institutions, while ALMA has committed a $10 million subordinated first-loss tranche to absorb initial losses. Symbiotics arranged the investment platform used for the transaction.
The fund plans to lend to women-owned and women-led companies, as well as lenders and fintech firms expanding financial services for female customers. It will also target climate-focused businesses, including electric-vehicle leasing companies and smaller renewable-energy projects.
Reinvesting repayments to expand lending
By recycling repayments from its borrowers into new loans, ALMA expects the fund to deploy as much as $240 million over time. The larger figure represents potential cumulative lending supported by the initial $100 million private capital raise and subsequent reuse of funds.
GuarantCo describes the operation as the third fund in its portfolio to reach financial close. Its partial guarantees are designed to make financing structures in emerging markets more accessible to institutional investors.
