Mozambique’s Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy signed 12 memorandums in Nacala on Tuesday, 20 October, valued by the government at 4.2 billion dollars, to set up mineral processing units in the country.

The projects include graphite, copper and titanium in particular. They are spread across the provinces of Nampula, Manica, Tete and Maputo, according to the government conference CAVAME-d and local economic media.

Financing and construction timetables still need to be agreed. President Daniel Chapo has requested monitoring of the projects before the next edition of the conference.

In Nacala, the proposals include a spherical graphite plant. Chiteng Mining, for its part, plans 17.67 million dollars for a copper unit in Moatize, in Tete province.

The government also wants to develop two industrial parks in Nacala to provide serviced land, water, energy, roads and security services. It has asked investors to publish subcontracting opportunities and to involve small and medium-sized local enterprises in future supply chains.
