Rosatom director general Alexei Likhatchev presented Egypt on 28 October as a potential outlet for floating nuclear power plants. In comments published by Strana Rosatom, the media outlet of the Russian state-owned group, he argues that this technology could become a major axis of cooperation with Cairo.
To make the case for this small-capacity offer, the executive highlights construction timelines and an electricity cost that he considers attractive for consumers. The statement thus sets out Rosatom's commercial arguments, without announcing any Egyptian order or specifying its financial terms.
The group relies on the experience of the Akademik Lomonosov at Pevek, in Russia's Far East. Its official documents date the start of commercial operation to 22 May 2020, and the first supply of heat to the city's network to 30 June of the same year.
