Tanzanian digital healthcare company Medikea announced on Monday, 26 October 2026, that it had closed a $1.2 million pre-seed funding round. Raised through successive closes, the capital is intended to support six additional clinics, further technology development and an expansion of specialist medical services.

Baobab Network, Catalyst Fund and develoPPP Ventures backed the earlier stages of the round. They were followed by investors including Madica, Impacc, Hustle Fund, O’Shaughnessy Ventures, Madiro and the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation. Medikea has not disclosed each investor’s contribution or a valuation for the business following the funding.

Plans to expand from four clinics to ten

Medikea now operates four clinics, following the opening of facilities in Arusha and Morogoro alongside its existing locations in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma. It plans to establish six more over the next twelve months.

Founded in 2022, the company combines round-the-clock online consultations with in-person care, diagnostic tests and medicine dispensing. It says it employs more than 40 clinical staff and has served over 50,000 patients since launch.

Capital for an integrated healthcare model

Its operating model links an initial consultation with testing, pharmacy services and digital follow-up. Medikea serves patients paying directly for treatment as well as insured members through partnerships with healthcare coverage providers.

The announced funding is also intended to support recruitment and a broader range of specialist services, including paediatrics and women’s health. Madica, which lists Medikea in its official investment portfolio, is among the investors named in the round. The planned spending for each new clinic has not been disclosed.
