The National Oil Corporation of Libya, the NOC, announced on 30 October that pumping had been halted on the pipeline supplying the Zawiya refinery from the Hamada and Tahara fields. It attributes the shutdown to the forced closure of a valve by an armed group in the Rayayna area.
The closure caused a sharp rise in pressure, forcing technical teams to halt pumping to protect the pipeline and production facilities. The NOC warns that a prolonged blockage would result in the loss of about 15,000 barrels of crude per day bound for the refinery. This is an announced risk, not a tally of losses already incurred.
On 22 October, the company had already reported the closure of a valve at the far end of this link, at a receiving station near the refinery. Individuals had intervened without coordination with technical teams, according to that earlier statement.
In its statement of 30 October, the NOC calls on the competent authorities, including guards of the oil facilities, to secure the pipeline and allow the valve to be reopened so that pumping can resume.
